These days, it is the publisher who is laid off

After little more than a year as publisher of Reader's Digest, Tracey Altman says she has been laid off. The company, which filed for bankruptcy in August, has been going through its latest reorg for the past few months. Earlier this week, Bloomberg reported that the Reader's Digest Association is seeking bankruptcy court approval to sell the CompassLearning educational unit for $43.2 million, including liabilities.

As for Altman, she expects legal action as a result of her dismissal and is getting an attorney to assist her on her severance. Altman's exit follows the departure of Lara Bashkoff, who left RDA after eight months as president of the publisher's interactive division.
